Guide to aftermarket Range Rover customisers

Customisation, in the automotive world, is the intricate process of tailoring a vehicle to the specific tastes and requirements of its owner. It's about transforming a machine into a reflection of one's personality, aspirations, and even lifestyle. For the Range Rover, this means transcending its already impressive stature to create something truly one-of-a-kind.

Whether it's the allure of a bespoke exterior finish, the thrill of enhanced horsepower, or the luxury of a cabin tailored to one's exact preferences, customising a Range Rover offers an unparalleled experience. It's a journey of discovery, innovation, and personal expression. And as we delve deeper into this guide, we'll explore the myriad possibilities that await every Range Rover owner, starting with the undeniable benefits of customisation.

Overfinch

Perhaps the oldest Land Rover and Range Rover outfitter, based outside of Leeds, West Yorkshire. The company was originally formed in 1975, in Farnham, Surrey. The founder, Arthur Silverton, named the company Shuler Presses. Overfinch states that the performance Range Rover concept was birthed by them, 44 years ago.

In 1981, they created an improved three-speed automatic transmission as well as a manual gearbox for long-distance driving. These gearboxes were used on the 1981 Paris-Dakar-rally-winning Range Rover.

The Overfinch name was adopted in 1985, when the company introduced the first air suspension system for the Range Rover. Additionally, at the time they were commissioned to build armoured Range Rovers by the UK Government. In 1988, they introduced the first performance Land Rover Defender. In 2001, they developed an Active Ride Technology for the Range Rover, which outperformed standard factory vehicles. Ford awarded the brand a “Special Recognition for Outstanding Achievement in Design”.

Throughout the years, they’ve created unique and rare special edition Range Rovers and Land Rovers, including anniversary editions. You might want to read our article on the merits of buying an Overfinch.

  • Lighting
  • Passenger conveniences and interior
  • Paintwork
  • Performance
  • Grilles and ducting
  • Suspension
  • Protection, sealing and soundproofing
  • Wheels

Kahn Design

Kahn Design, established by automotive designer Afzal Kahn, produces bespoke Range Rover Kahn and Land Rovers from dedicated premises in West Yorkshire. The company describes themselves as coachbuilders and car designers. Some of their past works include the exclusive Flying Huntsman 6x6 Defender. The brand’s founder appeared on Supercar Megabuild in an 11-part series on National Geographic TV.

Kahn Design offers:

  • A wheels collection
  • Exterior styling enhancements

Benefits of Customisations

Customising your Range Rover is not just about aesthetics; it's about tailoring your vehicle to fit your unique preferences and needs. Here are some of the top benefits of opting for customisations:

  • Enhanced Performance: Many customisation options, such as performance exhausts, upgraded suspension systems, and engine tuning, can significantly enhance the vehicle's performance. This not only improves the driving experience but can also offer better fuel efficiency and power output.
  • Increased Comfort: Interior customisations, like upgraded seating, enhanced audio systems, and advanced climate control options, can elevate the comfort level of your Range Rover, making every journey more enjoyable.
  • Safety Enhancements: Some customisations, like advanced lighting systems, better braking systems, or upgraded tires, can enhance the safety of the vehicle, providing peace of mind to the driver and passengers.
  • Unique Features: Customising allows owners to add features that might not be available in standard models. This could include advanced tech integrations, entertainment systems, or even luxury amenities like a mini-fridge or bespoke storage solutions.
