BMW’s first foray into the electric SUV market has been spotted testing and is likely to hit our roads in 2016.
Priced at around the £35,000 mark and likely to be badged as X1xDrive30e it will form the first in a long-line of electric SUVs models across the German manufacturer’s marque.
Boasting a two litre drive train working in harmony with an electric motor, it should be capable of hitting under 50G/km and more than 135mpg.
The plug-in hybrid won’t be a slouch either with a potential top speed of 130mph expected and the ability to push from 0-60mph in under seven seconds.
No figures have been officially announced for the X1 hybrid, but given that the X5 can cover nineteen miles on electric power then you can expect this to be matched or bettered.
Aesthetically, all the upcoming hybrid models will look almost identical with minimal altercations needed to add the ability to plug-in. Practically on all models will be slightly compromised as the new power unit will need to be stored under the floor.
BMW look to be making a push to be the undisputed leaders in the electric market and who would bet against them achieving it?
